Camping Chair Storage

For the past couple of months I’ve been tackling organizational projects in our garage. I felt like too many things where just being thrown here and there, or were just constantly in the way.

One thing taking up space, but not really having a spot, was our camping chairs. Sometimes we would actually take the time to put them back in their little storage bags, but most of the time they would get folded up and tossed in a pile. I wanted a storage solution that could store the chairs with, or without their bags. That way no one had an excuse not to put them away.

After brainstorming for a while I came up with this idea of a stacked storage system. It works perfectly for what we needed. We only have 4 chairs, and one of them is bulkier than the others because it has a foot rest, so I took that into consideration when measuring the distance between the slats.

I first took a 96” 2x4 and cut the length in half so each piece was 48”. I found studs in the wall (which is easy to do in the garage since the paint lines are exposed) and I secured them to the studs at the top and bottom with long bolts. This design works perfectly with the studs being 12” apart.

I used a second 2x4 to make the ‘shelves’ or ‘racks’. I cut them at a 30 degree angle, and made them 8” long. I first secured them to the back 2x4 with my nail gun to hold them in place, then added two wood screws going up at an angle to secure them.
These are very sturdy and have held up beautifully!

I’m very pleased with how quickly this came together and how it turned out.

You could build the racks higher or even to do sets beside each other for additional chairs.

Let me know if you end up using this idea for your home!
