DIY Beach Themed Canvas Art

Two weeks ago I posted a tutorial for removing the towel bar in your bathroom and replacing it with towel hooks instead.
It was the first post for our bathroom makeover. (If you missed that one you can check it out here).
We had some beach-themed artwork already in the bathroom, but I felt like it was a little out-dated and I wanted something to tie in with the other colors.
I knew I wanted to make something myself, so I went to Hobby Lobby and grabbed a 2-pack of blank 8x10 canvases. I think they are only $3.99 (and then use your 40% off coupon!)
I decided on a seahorse picture and an anchor picture.
I've got step by step pictures to show you how to whip these up yourself!

I grabbed my blank canvas and a pencil and started drawing.
I actually drew a seashell first instead of the seahorse, but I didn't like how it looked so I erased it.
I had never sketched anything like this before, and I wasn't sure how it would turn out.
It was a lot of trial and error, but it was kind of fun.
(If you don't want to free-hand there are some free templates you can Google and download instead).
To make the lines across I grabbed a paint mixing stick that I had on hand, mostly because it was the perfect width for the stripes, and drew the lines.
After I had finished drawing the lines I put the canvases next to each other and noticed I had lined them up...oops...I didn't even think about that, my OCD wouldn't let me leave them that way, so I erased the lines and lined them up.
 I then got to painting!
I just used acrylic craft paints that I already had on hand.
I was going to mix some colors, but I had a grey paint on hand called 'Grey Asphalt' that ended up being the perfect shade.
I like using the acrylic craft paints because they dry pretty quickly.
For the outline of the seahorse and anchor I looked through my stash of craft supplies and saw that I had a chalk marker that was the perfect shade of blue.
(Back in June I did a review for these liquid chalk markers here on the blog, you can check out more about them in my post here).
I loved using the marker because it was easy to keep the outline nice and neat.
I then grabbed white craft acrylic paint and painted inside the outline of the seahorse and anchor, as well as the white stripes.
There were a lot of pencil marks so painting the white helped it look cleaner.
I hung the canvases just above the new towel hooks and added two other pictures between them.
I only have a few small knick-knacks to finish up with and then this bathroom will be complete!
Stay tuned for the full bathroom reveal!
