Failure: Cleaning cookie sheets

The other day my son was playing at a friends house for a little while, I was kind of wandering around trying to figure out what project to start.
While I was in my kitchen it donned on me, my old horrible-looking cookie sheets!
I had just found a 'trick' on Pinterest, it's supposed to clean off all that dark looking stuff and make them look all silver and shiny again.  All you need to do is grab some baking soda and  hydrogen peroxide, let it sit for a while, and it should wipe right off, NO scrubbing.  (That's the part that caught my eye!)
I am sad to say this is the first time something I've found on Pinterest has let me down :(
Here is what my cookie sheet looked like to start out with, not too pretty, I know...
I did just what she did, I poured the baking soda on first,

 then the Hydrogen Peroxide,
then more baking soda,
and let it sit for 2 hours.
Again, it was supposed to just wipe right off, but after trying that, and then 15 minutes of scrubbing, this is what it looked like...almost the exact same as before in my opinion...
Has anyone else tried this and had it actually work?
Does anyone have any suggestions for me on what I might have maybe done wrong??

  1. Oh, so sorry Michelle. I haven't tried baking soda for cleaning cookie sheets. I've tried it for other things like stove tops (to remove grease) and it's worked pretty well. I imagine that the acid in the baking soda would be to blame for removing too much of the coating in the cookie sheet? Don't know...hmmm...it would be interesting to find out.

    1. Ha ha I had to go back and re-word the post because I realized it sounded confusing. The problem I had (the reason it didn't work) was because it didn't clean anything off!

  2. Oh man! All that work too. Sorry. I have to say most of the time I am happy with the things I have tried on Pinterest. I do more crafting than cleaning though! lol

  3. I've tried it for the oven with just backing soda & water and it worked wonders

  4. I tried it on a baking sheet and it didn't work either. Just a big mess and waste of ingredients

  5. Next time try it with baking soda and vinegar. I tried it but didn't have a anything scruffy to use on it and was just using a washcloth and it seemed to have worked in a few places-I think I will try it once again when I have something more rough to scrub it with. Since those ingredients are pretty cheap-it's worth a try.

  6. I tried it... ruined my pan. All the shine and smooth metal is gone. It's rough and almost feels porous.
