How to make cut-out Sugar Cookies

These sugar cookies are so easy to make and can be frosted to your liking!

Ingredients

3 c. all-purpose flour

2 sticks unsalted butter

1 egg

2 tsp. vanilla extract

1 tsp. baking powder

1 1/2 c. powdered sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 375.

Place butter in a mixing bowl and beat (on medium-low speed) for about 30 seconds.  Add egg and vanilla extract and beat for another 30 seconds. Add baking powder and powdered sugar. Beat on low until the powdered sugar is incorporated. Add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing a little after each addition.

The dough will start to pull from the sides of the bowl and form a ball. It should be a soft play-doh type consistency. (If the dough is too dry and doesn't form, add 1/2 Tbsp water and mix together. Add increments of water and mix until the desired consistency has been reached).

Dump dough onto counter (sprinkled lightly with flour), and knead dough for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.  You’ll want it to be a smooth ball.

Don't skip that step.

Roll out dough and cut into shapes with cookie cutters.

Line cookie sheet with parchment paper. Place cut-out cookies on the parchment paper and bake for about 10 minutes, or until you can see the bottoms of the cookie start to lightly tan.

Remove cookies from oven and place on cooling rack. Once cookies have cooled you can decorate them right away, or place in an airtight container until ready to use.

Check out the video below if you'd like to how to make these, and get an idea of what the dough consistency should be like.
