DIY Pokeball Costume

A few weeks ago I was talking to my 3 year old about Halloween.
He is so excited to go trick-or-treating, and much to my surprise he already knew what he wanted his costume to be.
When I asked him what he was planning on dressing up as he squealed with delight "A Pokeball!"
Ha ha ha
Um, it was the cutest thing ever to hear him talk about being a Pokeball and I was excited because I knew this would be something I could easily whip up for him.
I love how this turned out, and I love that he'll be able to wear a coat, or sweater, or whatever underneath it and you'll still be able to see the full costume.
I've got step-by-step pictures and instructions to show you how this came together.

I just started out by drawing two circles on cardboard.
and then cut them out.
I used a ruler to draw the lines across the middle of the circles.
For the front of the Pokeball I grabbed a cup and used it to draw a circle in the middle.
A smaller cup made for a perfect inner circle.
All ready to be painted!
I just used acrylic craft paint and started with the red.
I then painted the white.
I had to do two coats of paint so you couldn't see the cardboard.
I then finished with black.
For the back of the Pokeball I didn't draw a circle, I just had a straight line.
Front and back all painted and ready to go!
To connect the front and back I grabbed some velcro pieces I had on hand.
I placed three pieces of velcro on both the front and back pieces (on the inside of the cardboard). One piece of velcro at the top and two pieces at the sides of the ball.
I used the E6000 glue to give the velcro a little bit more strength.
I then grabbed some black felt and cut out some strips.
You could use ribbon, rope, or whatever you have on hand to hold the costume on your child.
The two smaller strips are to go across his sides, and the longer 'T' shaped one is to go around his neck and down his back.
After we made sure the glue had dried I had him try it on, he was thrilled!
Here is a side shot so you can see how it's held together.
And here is a shot from the back.
Do you see the 'T' part?
That helps hold it up while he's walking.
I might shorten that piece so it sits a little bit higher on his back...
And that's it!
My little guy can't wait to go trick-or-treating and show off his costume and I'm glad it's all ready to go :)
